About PRIES-CM
The project PRIES-CM (ref: Y2020/EMT-6290), financed by the Community of Madrid with €718,300 through the call for synergistic R&D projects in new and emerging scientific areas, aims to develop a theoretical model based on quantum chemistry to to predict potential risk of pesticides use, as well as to determine possible emerging contaminants in waters derived from these and its waste..
We aim to develop computational methods for the identification of the risk of pesticide use, in order to provide a solution to the identification of emerging contaminants in water and their possible origin. Given the different nature of these emerging contaminants, which in many cases have a higher persistence and/or toxicity than the original pesticide, it is not possible to approach this problem from an exclusively experimental point of view. This project, however, would make it possible to predict the behavior of pesticides, their by-products and their isomers, and the risk they pose to the environment and human and animal health.
